This week in class we watched the movie swingers in order to
learn about the importance of networking in life. I think that in the beginning
of the movie the main character was not being confidant enough because of what
happened in his personal life. No one wants to talk to a robot so personal
experience is a great thing to talk about for networking. Breaking the ice with
the old fashioned what do you do for a living never hurt anyone but being phony
with it can hurt you as in the movie swingers when he was pretending to be a
hot shot to s girl who he actually asked for a job from. Another lesson that
was in the movie is that you have to let go of the past in order to grow as an
individual and as a professional. If you constantly bash yourself for the
mistakes you made in the past then you can never move forward and learn from
those experiences. The main thing I got from the movie is if you want to get
anywhere in life always have a business card handy. Networking in my field is something that is
never ending being that I will most likely doing short term free-lance work and
always having to find my next bread and butter job. The movie to me means that
if you keep working hard and don’t give up on your dreams you can move forward
and grow as a person and possibly advance your career at the same time.

Week1 EOC: My voice
My name is Joaquim Abbott, my background
as an Audio Production graduate from the Art Institute has prepared me well to
bring something extra to the table when it comes to work. The universe is made
up of mathematics and frequencies. These frequencies are infinite and we don’t
fully understand all of them. But from 20Hz to 20,000, we are experts. Here in
the “Lab” as we call it we can design sounds that fit any situation. We
implement field sound recording along with expertise in a variety of DAW’s that
mixes analog and digital in a unique way. The field is where me and my team go
out and capture obscure seemingly useless sounds from all around the city. Then
we bring them into the “lab” and import them into the appropriate software
where all the creativity happens. When a customer comes to us with an animation
of an alien fight scene it would be very difficult to have believable sounds
without help from Joaquim Abbott studios. Las Vegas is one of the most unique
places to live because there is so much diversity. This diversity allows
me to get to know many different kinds of people and serve every one of them
with the same level of expertise. If someone were to ask me who am I wouldn't
be able to answer it with a simple sentence it would take a nice long
conversation about current technologies, how the audio production market has
changed and anything about music to stir up some info about myself.
